Here at 2D Designs, we are dedicated to the support
and promotion of action sports. I have been racing
motocross off and on since the late 60's and hope to
continue MX racing for a few more years. I also still enjoy
mountain biking, bmx, and skiing.
I believe that kids need to get involved in sports, but not
all are wired for the usual baseball, football, or soccer
that most towns or schools offer. Some kids are shy or
prefer the individual competition that a lot of these
action sports offer. There is also the "cool factor" that
attracts some and others just need that adrenaline rush
you get from jumping a bike or board and landing that
new trick.
It's a FAMILY AFFAIR! A lot of parents don't realize that these
sports are a family affair and would be surprised to see the family
or community atmosphere at these competitions. Having something
in common can bring people from different backgrounds together
and create bonds for years after. A lot of these sports have classes
for the older groups as well. You don't always need to be just the
parent, sometimes you are also a fellow competitor.
Promote GOOD HEALTH... Embrace the idea when your child comes
to you and asks to try bmx or learn to snowboard. It beats sitting on
the couch and playing video games and munching on snacks. The
exercise that one gets from any of these sports is incredible! The
cardio alone will keep you fit and trim. Did you know that MX
athletes are some of the most fit athletes in the world? Parents, try
taking your kids bike around a bmx track. It only takes a about
minute, but you will be gasping for air and wondering why your legs
just turned into play dough.
Stay PROTECTED... As with any sport, there is a
risk of injury. Minimize that risk by using the right
protective equipment for your sport. Most reputable
shops carry the proper safety gear or can at least
steer you in the right direction to find what you
need. Just as important as having the right gear is
ensuring the proper fit. A helmet too big can be
dangerous and can even cause more injuries!
